Shi Lin, member of the Standing Committee of the Jiuquan Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Dunhuang Municipal Party Committee, pointed out that there are many types of mineral resources and abundant reserves in Dunhuang City, which contain huge potential development and utilization value. 16 types of mineral resources have been identified, including iron, vanadium, tungsten, gold, graphite, etc. Vanadium is the largest advantageous mineral resource in Dunhuang City, with reserves ranking fourth in the country.

Next, Dunhuang City will build a vertically integrated vanadium based energy storage industry chain of "efficient extraction, deep processing, electrolyte, all vanadium flow battery, energy storage power station" in accordance with the concept of "leading by leaders, clustering in industrial parks, extending and supplementing chains, and developing high-tech and high-value industries such as sodium vanadium phosphate batteries, vanadium nitrogen alloys, vanadium iron alloys, aerospace grade vanadium alloys, and other high-end vanadium based new materials. Efforts will be made to create a billion level industrial chain in about 5 years, and ultimately a billion level vanadium industry cluster in about 10 years.
