In the European dimming market, there is still a large demand for LED products compatible with thyristor dimmers. Due to the wide variety of dimmers and poor dimming compatibility, most traditional LED products that are compatible with thyristor dimming still use switching power supply solutions. However, the switching thyristor dimming drive power supply scheme has many magnetic core components and plug-in components, which can also cause problems such as EMI and electromagnetic noise, making it difficult to achieve full chip design, affecting production efficiency and cost. At the same time, the structure and appearance of LED products are also limited, which cannot meet the needs of small volume LED products (such as filament lamps).
In order to meet the small volume requirements of customers, achieve full chip design, and reduce system costs, Onbao Electronics has launched the highly compatible and low-cost European efficient single segment linear thyristor dimming scheme OB5658A without stroboscopic.

OB5658A is a highly efficient single segment linear thyristor dimming scheme without stroboscopic effects in Europe, packaged in ESOP8. It is designed for filament lamp or bulb lamp thyristor dimming product applications and supports a maximum output current of 30mA. The performance characteristics are as follows:
Compatible with front and rear edge dimmers;
Meet the new European ErP standards;
Built in loop compensation capacitor, closed-loop constant current control;
Compatible with 50Hz/60Hz frequency dimming applications;
The maximum maintenance current of the dimmer can be set externally;
Over temperature and current regulation function;
No EMI, electromagnetic noise issues;
Excellent output current linear adjustment rate and load adjustment rate, with constant current accuracy controlled within 1%;
Simple peripheral design with low BOM cost;

OB5658A has been optimized for high-voltage dimming applications. The chip detects whether there is an access dimmer on the AC input side during system startup, and the type of access dimmer is determined by the front and rear edge categories. When there is no dimmer connected, turning off the maintenance current control circuit can improve the system efficiency by more than 10% compared to traditional linear schemes. In the case of dimmer access, OB5658A automatically performs different maintenance current control for different types of dimmers, thereby achieving excellent dimming compatibility.
The European market implements the IEC61000-3-2-2019 standard, which requires lighting products with input power within the range of 5-25W to have requirements for sub harmonics and input current phase angle. The unique input current waveform of OB5658A not only improves efficiency, but also meets the harmonic and input current phase requirements of the new standard.
