Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Murata") has developed a new series of car mounted power inductors (1) "DFE2MCPH_JL (DFE2MCPHR33MJLLQ, DFE2MCPHR47MJLLQ) series" using wire wound metal alloys (hereinafter referred to as "this product"). It is a small car mounted power inductor with a size of 2016 (2.0x1.6mm), which not only achieves high voltage resistance of 40V, but also achieves industry ultra-high level (2) DC resistance and rated current. Mass production will begin in January 2024.
(1) Power inductor: an inductor used to form the power circuit of DC-DC converters, etc.
(2) Our company's investigation results. As of January 29, 2024.
In recent years, with the development of the automotive industry, the performance of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) and IVI (3) systems has been continuously improving, and the number of systems equipped has been increasing. This poses higher requirements for the battery and power circuit that provide power to further achieve low power consumption and small size.
Therefore, by investing in newly developed materials and improving the process and electrode structure, Murata successfully developed 2016 small-sized, excellent electrical characteristics, and vehicle power inductors that meet miniaturization, low loss, and support high current requirements. Moreover, with a withstand voltage of up to 40V, both primary and secondary power sources (4) widely used in automotive electronic devices are applicable.
(3) IVI (In Vehicle Infotainment): A vehicle function that provides information and entertainment to drivers and passengers through IT devices equipped in the car.
(4) Primary power supply/secondary power supply: The onboard power supply generally adopts a power circuit composed of two levels, which can provide a primary step-down power supply for inputting 12V power from lead-acid batteries and a secondary step-down power supply for supplying low voltage power of 1 to 2V to semiconductors.
Murata will continue to strive to expand the product lineup to meet market demand and contribute to the high-performance and high functionality of automobiles in the future.

Supports low resistance and high current
Compared with Murata's previous product (5), the DC resistance (Rdc) (6) has decreased by 38%, the DC saturation rated current value (Isat) (7) has increased by 64%, and the temperature rise rated current (itemp) (8) has increased by 31% (at an average of 0.33) μ In the case of H). It can also be used in the power supply circuit of high current driven on-board electronic devices such as ADAS.
As a metal power inductor designed for small vehicles, it achieves both the aforementioned electrical characteristics and the previously difficult 40V withstand voltage, which helps to improve reliability.
small-scale
As a metal power inductor for vehicle use, it has achieved a small size of 2016 (2.0x1.6mm) in length and width. Helps to further miniaturize the circuit board.
(5) Comparison with DFE2MCAH_J0 series of wire wound metal alloy car mounted power inductors.(6) Direct current resistance (Rdc): The resistance component of a wound wire (copper wire). This value affects the power loss and heat generation of the inductor, the lower the better.
(7) DC saturation current value (Isat): rated current value based on inductance variation.
(8) Temperature rise rated current (itemp): The rated current based on the temperature rise limit.
