Communication module: supported

LoRaWAN ®+satellite communication

Murata Productions Co., Ltd. has developed Murata's first (1) support while holding LoRaWAN ® (2) The communication module "Type 2GT" for satellite communication. It can be used for various IoT devices such as smart agriculture, environmental sensing, and smart homes. Mass production began in March 2024.

In recent years, communication infrastructure such as 5G and IoT has been continuously developing. With the miniaturization of communication satellites and the wider coverage of satellite networks formed by a large number of satellites, satellite communication has become an important social infrastructure and is becoming a new expectation. However, as of now, satellite communication has not been applied in the IoT field, and there is a need to utilize satellite communication in areas where cellular communication cannot be used.

To this end, Murata developed the "Type 2GT" module, which is Murata's first model to support LoRaWAN simultaneously ® Products related to satellite communication. This product is equipped with the first support for LoRaWAN ® Semtech's chipset "LoRa Connect" for satellite communication ™ LR1121 can perform long-distance communication and satellite communication from 860MHz to 930MHz and 2.4GHz (ISM Band) with a transmission power of up to 22dBm. Through Murata's unique wireless design technology, space saving installation technology, and product processing technology, miniaturization and high-performance have been achieved. In addition, it has also obtained standard certifications from Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan, which helps to rationalize the IoT device design process and shorten the time required for the final product to be launched.

Commentary from Carlo Tinella, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Semtech: "I am pleased that Murata has achieved advanced third-generation multi band LoRa." ® modular. In the IoT industry, this progress has enabled LoRa in sub GHz and 2.4GHz ® The application development process working under frequency has been rationalized and can ensure security. Murata Productions is committed to reducing design complexity and certification issues, helping developers around the world apply fast and versatile IoT solutions to multiple fields from smart agriculture to urban infrastructure
