TEA1708 is an IC suitable for automatic discharge of X capacitors, with low power consumption characteristics (typical value of 1 mW at 230 V (AC)).

Internally integrated with a 500 V clamp circuit, it can protect the IC during power surges. In typical applications with only two 200k Ω resistors, the maximum allowable differential mode surge voltage exceeds 6 kV. No metal oxide varistors are needed to protect the IC.

The discharge current of the X capacitor is internally limited to 2.3 mA. Use low-voltage capacitors to set a discharge delay timer externally.

Extremely low power consumption combined with high discharge current, large capacity X capacitors can be used to reduce EMI while maintaining low standby power consumption.

NXP active bridge rectifier controller: TEA1708 features
At 230 V (AC), the power consumption is 1 mW
Integrated 500 V clamp; No need to use metal oxide resistors to protect ICs
Self powered, no need for external bias power supply
Internal restriction of discharge current
Adjustable discharge delay
Extreme height difference mode surge: 6 kV, with two 200k Ω resistors
A simpler application design that solves EMI problems without affecting efficiency levels
NXP active bridge rectifier controller: TEA1708 target application
All AC power sources (X-capacitance value>100nF) require low load standby power consumption
