50W transmitter and receiver matching scheme, using ST overcharging protocol to simplify fast charging design.
STMicroelectronics has launched a Qi wireless charging solution that includes a 50W transmitter and receiver to accelerate the development cycle of high-power wireless chargers for medical instruments, industrial equipment, household appliances, and computer peripherals.
By adopting a new wireless charging solution from STMicroelectronics, developers can bring the convenience and charging speed of wireless charging to applications that require higher output power and charging speed, including wireless vacuum cleaners, wireless power tools, mobile robots such as drones, medical drug delivery equipment, portable ultrasound systems, stage lighting and mobile lighting, printers and scanners. Because cables, connectors, and complex docking configurations are no longer needed, the design of these products has become simpler, cheaper, and more reliable.
The STEVAL-WBC2TX50 power transmission board adopts the STSC protocol, with a maximum output power of up to 50W. STSC is a wireless charging protocol unique to STMicroelectronics, which charges faster than the standard wireless charging protocol used in smartphones and similar devices. It can charge larger batteries at a faster rate. The board also supports two charging modes, Qi 1.3 5W Baseline Power Profile (BPP) and 15W Extended Power Profile (EPP). The STWBC2-HP power emission system package of STWBC2-HP Semiconductor is the main chip on board, integrating STM32G071 Arm ® Cortex-M0 microcontroller and RF dedicated front-end. This front-end provides signal conditioning and frequency control functions, driving a high-resolution PWM signal generator at the transmitting end, using a 4.1V to 24V DC power supply, and also includes MOSFET gate drivers and USB charging D+/D-interfaces. In addition, the STWBC2-HP system package SiP can be paired with the STSAFE-A110 safety unit of STWBC2-HP semiconductor, providing Qi compatible device verification function.

The STEVAL-WLC98RX power receiving board can handle up to 50W of charging power, safely and reliably supporting all functions of STSC and BPP and EPP charging modes. The Adaptive Rectifier Configuration (ARC) extends the charging distance by up to 50%, providing the possibility of using lower cost coils and more flexible configurations. The receiving board also provides precise voltage and current measurement functions for foreign object detection (FOD), thermal management, and system protection. The STWLC98 wireless charging receiver chip of STWL Semiconductor is the main onboard chip, which includes a Cortex-M3 core and a maximum adjustable output voltage of 20V, high integration, and efficient synchronous rectification power stage.

STEVAL-WLC98RX specialized software tools STSW-WPSTUDIO and STEVAL-WBC2TX50 specialized software tools STSW-WBC2STUDIO are also provided by STFRA Semiconductor. Developers can use these tools to modify configuration parameters and customize the working characteristics of chips according to specific application requirements. STMicroelectronics also provides a comprehensive set of development and design documents.
The two boards come with a compliance statement for the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and are available in semiconductor electronics stores and agents in France.
